Workouts Have Their Limits - NYTimes

I’m glad that this article about the importance of rest and moderation is out there.  It describes how a lot of recreational athletes think that the way to get a good workout & improve is to continuously push yourself beyond your limits. You see this a lot among triathletes, particularly those who set their sights on the Ironman.  It’s a shame, though, because not taking rest days can lead to injuries or just an energy & efficiency downward spiral (the article cites that it takes an athlete’s body a full day to replenish glycogen stores).  Don’t use this article as an excuse to slack off, but realize that exercise doesn’t always have to be extreme. I guess it’s weird to hear that from someone who’s training for the Ironman, but I’m all for moderation in exercise in my own special way.
